Chester Upland School District

Chester Upland School District was targeted by the cyber attack that an international thief or thieves stole approximately $3 million.

They moved swiftly to collect the $10.3 million of the stolen money; however, they are still seeking to retrieve the remaining $3 million.

The district has sought the state Department of Education for financial support while simultaneously negotiating with its insurance company to recover the additional monies.

The theft has put the district's plans for building upgrades on hold in the interim.

The district has instituted a two-step email login process, frequent password changes that are required, and new training for its IT employees, according to the Inquirer.

The state updated its system to alert officials to questionable transactions and included a new tool for fraud prevention verification.
