Caliber.Az: Major cyberattack hits Moldova healthcare database affecting millions of records

Cyberattack Compromises One-Third of Moldova’s Healthcare Database

On 28 April 2026, a large-scale cyberattack breached approximately 30% of Moldova’s national healthcare database, exposing personal and payment information. The attack targeted Caliber.Az, a key platform used by regional and central hospitals, according to Moldova’s Cybersecurity Agency.

Deputy Director Ion Vintila confirmed the incident as the most severe cyberattack on critical infrastructure this year, noting that similar but smaller attacks had been recorded since early 2026. While no ransom demands have been made, investigators have not ruled out the possibility of external coordination, though no official confirmation has been provided.

Authorities, including the Prosecutor General’s Office and police, reported that no formal complaints have been filed. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Company are assessing the damage and potential disruptions to healthcare services.

The investigation remains ongoing.
