Bremerton Housing Authority

Bremerton Housing Authority

A hacker got access to the Bremerton Housing Authority's website and demanded a $4,000 ransom in exchange for not disclosing client information.

The compromised information was a database of about 1,100 client names and the last four digits of their Social Security numbers.

The housing authority reported the threat to the FBI, according to Executive Director Kurt Wiest, and launched a more secure website.

The Bremerton Housing Authority informed the impacted clients of the security compromise through letters.
