Blank Rome LLP Faces Class Action Over May Data Breach Affecting 57,000 Clients

Blank Rome LLP, an Am Law 100 firm with 800 attorneys across 16 U.S. and international offices, is the target of a proposed class action lawsuit alleging negligence in safeguarding client data. The complaint, filed on July 6, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, claims the firm failed to implement adequate security measures and delayed notifying affected individuals following a May data incident.

Lead plaintiff Laura Delapaz alleges the breach exposed highly sensitive information, including names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, medical records, and government-issued IDs. The lawsuit argues Blank Rome violated common law, contract obligations, industry standards, and federal regulations such as the Federal Trade Commission Act and HIPAA.

Plaintiffs cite damages ranging from privacy violations and emotional distress to financial losses and heightened fraud risks. The complaint seeks compensatory and punitive damages, restitution, injunctive relief, and attorneys’ fees under multiple legal theories, including negligence, breach of contract, and violations of California consumer protection laws.

Blank Rome has not yet responded to requests for comment. The case, Delapaz v. Blank Rome LLP (No. 2:26-cv-04655), follows similar lawsuits against other major law firms, including Wiley Rein LLP, Fried Frank, and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Strauss Borrelli PLLC represents the plaintiff and proposed class.
