Cyber Attack Disrupts AZ Monica Hospital in Antwerp, Forcing Cancellations and System Shutdown
AZ Monica, a hospital in Antwerp, Belgium, suffered a cyber attack on Tuesday, disrupting operations across its Deurne and Antwerp (Harmonie) campuses. While emergency care remains available though at reduced capacity non-urgent services have been suspended. At least 70 scheduled surgeries were canceled, and around 70 patients were discharged. Seven others were transferred to alternative hospitals as a safety measure. Mobile emergency teams have been temporarily replaced by nearby facilities, though visitor access remains unaffected.
Hospital management confirmed that there is currently no evidence of patient data theft. Their priority remains ensuring patient safety while systems are assessed and restored. The full extent of the attack and recovery timeline have not yet been disclosed.
