Artemis Healthcare Hit by Crypto24 Ransomware Attack, Exposing Data of Nearly 46,000 Individuals
Artemis Healthcare, an anatomic pathology laboratory serving physicians, surgery centers, and hospitals in Florida and North Carolina, disclosed a ransomware attack that compromised the sensitive data of 45,867 individuals. The breach was discovered on May 31, 2025, after the company detected suspicious network activity. A forensic investigation revealed that unauthorized access occurred between May 5 and May 31, 2025, with the ransomware group Crypto24 later claiming responsibility and posting about the hack on the Tor network on July 16, 2025.
The exposed data includes Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, health insurance details, and medical information, varying by individual. Artemis Healthcare completed its investigation on September 12, 2025, and began notifying affected individuals shortly after. The company also reported the breach to the Vermont Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as required by law.
In response, Artemis Healthcare stated it is reviewing security policies, providing additional employee training, and implementing corrective measures. The incident has prompted legal action, with class action law firm Shamis & Gentile P.A. investigating potential compensation claims for affected individuals.
