Ariel Clinical Services Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Information of Clients and Employees
Ariel Clinical Services, a Colorado-based nonprofit human services agency, disclosed a data breach after detecting unauthorized access to employee email accounts in late July 2025. The organization, which provides foster care, adoption, and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, operates across Colorado with over 60 employees.
On July 28, 2025, Ariel Clinical Services identified suspicious activity in certain employee email accounts. A subsequent investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed an employee’s email on July 25 and July 29, 2025. While it remains unclear whether specific emails were viewed, the exposed accounts contained sensitive personally identifiable information (PII), including:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Financial card numbers with access codes
- Medical information
- Health insurance details
The breach was reported to the Montana Attorney General’s office on December 8, 2025, with only one Montana resident confirmed as affected. However, the full scope of impacted individuals across other states remains undetermined.
In response, Ariel Clinical Services notified affected parties and implemented enhanced security measures. The organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, including a $1 million identity theft insurance policy, through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company) for twelve months.
Legal firms, including Shamis & Gentile P.A., are investigating potential compensation for those affected by the breach. The incident underscores the risks of unauthorized access to sensitive data in the healthcare and social services sectors.
