Ampex Data Systems Discloses Ransomware Attack Affecting 3,723 Individuals
Ampex Data Systems Corp., a California-based defense and aerospace electronics firm, reported a data breach impacting 3,723 individuals in the U.S. The incident was disclosed to the Maine Attorney General on May 18, 2026, with affected individuals notified via written letters on May 26, 2026.
The breach occurred on March 21, 2026, when the PLAY ransomware group gained unauthorized access to and encrypted a network at one of Ampex’s office locations. The intrusion was contained by March 23, 2026, though network restoration remained ongoing at the time of notification. On March 30, 2026, PLAY claimed responsibility on the dark web, threatening to publish stolen data within three days.
The breach exposed sensitive personal information, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, and banking details, affecting current and former contractors, employees, and dependents of Delta Information Systems Inc. and its subsidiaries, including Ampex Data Systems, Acroamatics Inc., Telemetry and Communications Systems Inc., and Wideband Systems Inc.
In response, Ampex is offering free single-bureau credit monitoring, credit reports, and credit score services through Cyberscout (a TransUnion company) to affected individuals. Enrollment requires a unique code from the notification letter and must be completed within 90 days. A dedicated helpline (1-877-424-7916) is available for 90 days, alongside direct support via Ampex’s HR department (1-650-367-3259).
