Alpha Baking Co. Settles $1.05 Million Over 2025 Data Breach Exposing Sensitive Customer Data
Alpha Baking Co. Inc. has agreed to a $1.05 million settlement in a class action lawsuit stemming from a January 2025 cyberattack that compromised sensitive personal information. The breach exposed data including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license details, financial account information, and protected health records.
Eligible claimants individuals who received a notice from Alpha Baking Co. about the incident may seek reimbursement for documented losses up to $4,000, covering expenses like identity theft-related costs, credit monitoring fees, and replacement of identification documents. Those without documented losses can claim a one-time $75 cash payment. All class members are also entitled to two years of free credit monitoring through CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes $1 million in fraud insurance and identity theft protection.
The settlement fund will cover administrative costs, up to $350,000 in attorneys’ fees, $10,000 in service awards for class representatives, and credit monitoring expenses, with the remainder distributed to eligible claimants. Payments will be issued via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or check, with proportional reductions if total claims exceed the fund.
Claims must be submitted by June 22, 2026, with the final approval hearing scheduled for July 21, 2026. Payouts will be distributed within 60 days of the court’s final approval, pending any appeals.
The lawsuit alleged Alpha Baking Co. failed to adequately secure customer data, though the company denies wrongdoing and settled to avoid further litigation. The breach occurred when unauthorized individuals accessed files containing sensitive information.
